Alastair Black began his career in the UK tax authority in London. After completing his training there he went to work for major accountancy firms Coopers & Lybrand for three years and then Price Waterhouse for ten years (C&L and PW are nowadays merged as PWC).

He specialised in “Expatriate Taxation”, involving both UK & US taxation (Federal & State). He became head of the “IATS” (International Assignment Tax Services) Price Waterhouse department in Scotland, covering three offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen on a regular basis.

During this time he worked closely with major firms at the time such as Hewlett Packard, Compaq and Exxon (Esso).

Alastair travelled numerous times to the United States in a professional capacity and contributed there in international taxation conferences. His performance there was described several times as “outstanding”.
